What's Happening?!

17 Jun 2010

Monday, June 21st is not only the Summer Solstice - the day with the most hours of daylight - but it's also National Ride-To-Work Day. Click on the "Ride-To-Work" logo above for more information on this annual event. For many of us, every day is ride-to-work day but for others logistics, weather or other outside forces make it difficult to impossible to commute by bike. So, for one day each year, let's make an effort to increase the number of motorcyclists on the road.

The Oregon Department of Transportation recently released a report examining the national and international use of motorcycle lane-sharing, sometimes referred to as lane-splitting or –filtering, in terms of safety and benefits. It's some interesting reading. Here is a link to the Lane Sharing pdf

What do you think? Is it time to consider lane sharing in Washington State?

Thanks to some great work by Tim G. and David P., the 2010 edition of the Spring Tech Day/Swap & Shop was a very successful get-together. We worked on a couple of bikes, installing a complete set of tires and brake pads, performing an oil change and doing some chain and rear wheel maintenance. We also ate some very fine pulled pork sandwiches and folks went home with some new-to-them motorcycle gear. There are a few pics in the Photo Gallery that tell some of the story. Check it out.

The Long Way to Rooter's RIDE! went off as planned. It was a cool but dry day and we had a good time riding SE King County back roads. We made a last minute destination change after hearing of a highly touted burger at a place in Issaquah called Jak's Grill. The burgers were good but the riding was better.

We hope to see a good turn-out at this Saturday's Washington State Fiesta RIDE! We'll be heading to Kelso, Cathlamet, Ilwaco, Raymond, Pe Ell and more. See the Calendar page for details.
